There has been some recent confusion about Industry Canada's popular CAP program. Community centres and libraries recently received a letter informing them that as of April 1, 2010,the Government of canada will reduce the scope of its financial support to CAP and that support would continue until March 31, 2011, for CAP sites that do not have access to a publicly funded library within 25 kilometres.
Following this, Tony Clement, Minister, Industry Canada announced that funding would remain but would be issued under a broadband strategy plan.
Industry Canada's Community Access Program (CAP) gives thousands of Canadians affordable access to the Internet in places like schools, community centres and libraries. It provides access to those people who might not have computers or Internet access in their homes or workplaces.
Canadians use these sites to job search, seek government information and services, and to ensure they are connected to the information they need to succeed. The CAP sites in libraries and community agencies are an invaluable community resource.
