Passionate about Readers’ Advisory?
Consider a position on the Ontario Public Library Association’s Readers’ Advisory Committee
What are the benefits of joining?
The committee is a great way to meet and work with other individuals who are passionate about readers and reading. The meetings and events give members the ability to network and provide leadership in the area of readers’ advisory. Committee work allows members to contribute to province-wide training materials, RA in a Day, Super Conference and other events.
Library systems that support staff members to participate will be represented on an OPLA committee charged with shaping readers’ advisory services in the province. The committee appreciates the perspectives that members can bring from their diverse communities across the province. In addition, library systems will gain direct access to training materials and opportunities presented by this committee.
What are the requirements?
Members must belong to the Ontario Library Association and be involved in the provision of public library service to adults. Membership is encouraged from across the province and from a variety of different sized library systems.
How much time is required?
The committee meets 4 times a year at the OLA offices for all-day meetings. Members must attend 3 meetings in-person and can teleconference for one of the 4 meetings. Members must attend the yearly “RA in a Day” workshop. Members are expected to prepare for committee meetings, complete committee work and may participate in Super Conference duties.
Are any expenses covered?
OPLA pays the travel expenses related to attendance at regular meetings.
